Introducing the 5-time World champion, Gezary Matuda.
Gezary is among the most well-known female jiu jitsu black belt competitors, especially for her technical sequences and exciting matches. She was born on the 12th of July, 1983, in Brazil. With her solid athletic background in Capoeira and Muay Thai, she started training jiu jitsu in 2004 and became a student of Carlson Gracie Black belt, Carlos ‘Penão’ Alexandre Conceição. Even as a blue belt, she has achieved multiple victories, such as CBJJF South American and World Cup. And as a purple and brown belt, she also managed to win the IBJJF Pan American and World Championship. After moving to the United States and winning IBJJF World as a brown belt, she received her black belt from Professor Ricardo Liborio from American Top Team.
From winning five-time IBJJF World championships, three-time as an adult black belt, and two-time as a color belt, she quickly became on top of the food chain, making her opponents fearful.
What does it take to be good at jiu jitsu like Gezary?
Out of so many specialites Gezary has, one of the most strongest weapons she owns is her aggressive guard, De La spider, a combination of a De La Riva guard and a Spider guard. Whether the person is on their knee or standing with a good posture, Gezary manages to destroy their posture and off-balance them to set up her sweet sweeps and submissions. The spider guard is one of the best guards for controlling your opponent like a puppet, while the De La Riva guard destroys your opponent’s hopes of passing you on the outside… why not mix both together to stop outside, and pressure passing all at once? In an attempt to share her knowledge in De La Spider guard, Gezary released her latest course, “De La Spider - A Spider De La Riva System” with Jiu Jitsu X.
What can I exactly learn from Gezary’s course?
If you have been struggling to control your opponent from the guard or deal with training partners passing on their knees, this course, “De La Spider - A Spider De La Riva System” is the MUST. Gezary will step-by-step guide you on how to control, attack, and counter your opponent’s decisions with the spider guard, spider lasso, De La Riva, and everything in between. And it is followed by countless submission options such as armbar, omoplata, triangle, kneebar, loop choke, etc. The best part about this course is Gezary’s revelation of how to connect and chain together. It almost does not matter what type of reaction your opponents give you to shut your guard down. You will have an answer for every scenario that sucks them into submissions. Understanding the why and when behind the spider guard “De La Spider” is not just about positions is the key to this course. It’s about the concepts and details behind them.
