Igor Paiva, The ultimate punisher against guard player.
Igor Paiva is a Brazilian jiu jitsu 1st degree black belt representing Soul Fighters academy. He was born on July 4, 1990, in Brazil. His dedication to jiu jitsu started at age 17; he earned multiple victories throughout competitions such as IBJJF worlds and CBJJ Brasileiro as a color belt. One of his main strengths is tearing apart his opponent’s guard. Seemingly, effortlessly. His guard passing is so powerful that it not only demolishes his opponent’s guard, but he also safely shuts down any offense and turns it into his own advantage.
Do you feel like you need to improve your approach to passing guards?
This might sound familiar to you: you are paying extra attention to new passing techniques your instructors teach. Yet your training partners seem to be putting just as much work into their guard. You get so frustrated not knowing what you are missing, let alone what you need to step up against their complex guard.
There are always two types of jiu jitsu practitioners: those who prefer playing guard, and those who prefer being on top. For a lot of beginners, being on top is significantly preferred. As your training advances though, you will eventually face someone with a guard too complex for your top game. You get swept and submitted over and over, becoming more and more frustrated and discouraged. There must be a way to approach their guard and feel in control again, right?! Well, there is, and it's right here with Igor.
How can I be a good guard passer like Igor?
“Demolition” is the science and engineering practice of safely and efficiently tearing down structures. Throughout his long jiu jitsu journey, Igor developed multiple sequences that work against anybody and any guard they play. While there might be countless techniques - simple to oh so fancy - they all branch out from a couple of basic guards and guard passes. In Igor’s latest course “Guard Passing Demolition,” you will be accessing all the core concepts and details that are the foundation of all types of passing. Once you fully understand the mechanics behind the passes, they can be easily implemented into your guard passing game.
How many times do you find yourself stuck in de la riva, z guard (knee shield), half guard, and lasso/ spider guard? Considering that those 4 guards are used frequently by competitors, it is necessary for us to be aware of how to approach them. These 4 guards are very offensive, full of transitions and attacks waiting beneath them. Igor's course will guide you through tearing your opponent's guard apart and give you the tools to shut down any attacks that make it through. You will make your training partners and opponents think twice about attacking you!
Each pass taught is be followed up by further variations dependent on your opponent's reactions, including switching sides and chaining passes into attacks.
By the end of the course, you'll be ready to apply the techniques right away. Unlock all lessons so you can pass more guards every training session, even the higher belts who always manage to get the best out of you!
