Colton was a wrestler from an early age, he wrestled for Ankeny High School at 145 pounds. Smith is a Combat infantryman, earned airborne, ranger, and sapper tabs and has served tours in Iraq, Syria, Jordan and Afghanistan.
Colton rose to stardom, after being selected as a cast member for The Ultimate Fighter. He had to receive special permission in order to participate in the reality series during active duty.
He won The Ultimate fighter 16 series, and went on to fight in the UFC before eventually retiring from competitively fighting in mma.
Smith now has three children. He runs his own MMA gym, Enlisted Nine Fight Company, in Stafford County, Virginia and fledging lifestyle brand Enlisted Nine Fight Company partnered with Veteran Clothing giant, NineLine Apparel.
He continues to stay active in the JiuJitsu scene when he can, and enjoys passing on his knowledge to his students.
