Are you getting your guard passed all the time?
Beyond just learning to sweep and submit your opponents, you may wish to develop an impassable guard. An impassable guard will lead you to having more opportunities to attack. It's THE BEST way to frustrate your opponents and get them to tire themselves out. Tommy Langaker is known for utilizing his impassable guard against major opponents such as Ronaldo Junior.
Who is Tommy Langaker, and what is so special about him?
Tommy Langaker was born on February 8th, 1994, in Norway. With his commitment and devotion to jiu jitsu, Tommy Langaker has developed a phenomenal reputation as a black belt competitor. He not only conquered events like the Abu Dhabi Pro, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, and the IBJJF European Open, but also is well-known for his precise back attack and offensive open guard play.
He earned his black belt under Jose Carlos after training with top-level black belts like the Mendes brothers. Throughout his dedicated journey through jiu jitsu, he has developed an unstoppable sequence of crab-ride and guard retention that has increased his reputation as a world-class competitor.
How can I be like him?
Part of Tommy Langaker's recipe to success is his ability to combine guards. Combinations of guards such as the key master, collar sleeve, and quarter guard transition to a never-ending nightmare of guard attacks. And trust me, it will easily irritate your training partners and opponents when they can’t get to the position they are fighting for.
This ability to transition to attacks is another key ingredient in Langaker's success on the mats. When you've chained movement sequences to allow you to bide your time for the right moment to attack, winning is only a matter of time. And the timing is totally up to you.
